Commercial electrical
Commercial electrician in Spalding & South Holland
We're PPM Electrical Ltd, a commercial electrical contractor based at 29 Wedgewood Drive in Spalding. We look after the electrics in packhouses, food processing sites, cold stores, warehouses, farms, shops and offices across South Holland and the rest of Lincolnshire: planned installs, testing and repairs, from a local firm that picks up the phone. If your plant can't sit idle, we'll work around your production rather than the other way round.
Distribution boards, sub-mains and three-phase
A lot of farms, workshops and food sites are still running on supplies sized for a different era. Adding solar, EV charging, grain drying or another cold room usually means a board upgrade, new sub-mains or a three-phase alteration. We survey the existing board, check the load, and design an upgrade that leaves spare ways for the next bit of kit.
We also replace damaged boards, add surge protection and tidy up legacy wiring that's grown over years of add-ons. If the DNO needs to get involved for a supply increase, we'll help you through that conversation instead of leaving you to guess.
Lighting, LED upgrades and emergency lighting
Warehouse and packhouse lighting is a cost you feel every month. LED upgrades cut energy use and improve light on the line. We fit IP-rated fittings for wash-down areas, high-bay LEDs for stores, and external lighting for yards and loading bays.
We also test and repair emergency lighting, so if your last certificate has lapsed we can test, report and replace fittings.
Testing, EICRs and maintenance
Most businesses need periodic fixed-wire testing (a commercial EICR). How often depends on the environment. A dry office can go longer between inspections than a damp packhouse or a dusty agricultural building. We're NAPIT certified for periodic inspection and testing of commercial premises. We carry out the test, explain any C1, C2 or FI codes in plain English, and quote separately for remedial work so you can plan and budget for it.
For sites that can't wait for an emergency call-out, a maintenance arrangement gives you periodic inspections, repairs and an engineer who already knows the building.
Control panels and refrigeration electrics
Cold stores and process lines depend on their control panels as much as their compressors. We fault-find and repair the electrical side of PLC panels, isolators, sensors and motor circuits. Because we also service cold stores and commercial refrigeration (we're F-Gas certified), you deal with one local contractor when a room's warming up and you need it back online.
Workplace EV charging and air conditioning
We install workplace and commercial EV charge points and F-Gas certified office and commercial air conditioning, so the electrics behind them are done by the same team.
Who we work for
Packhouses and food processing: long hours, wet and dusty areas, and lines that can't stop. We respect hygiene and access rules and can work early starts, weekends or planned shutdowns.
Cold stores and chillers: electrical fault-finding, control panels and supplies for refrigeration plant, backed by our cold-store service team.
Warehouses and distribution: high-bay LED lighting, distribution, small power, yard lighting and EV charging.
Farms and agricultural buildings: grain stores, dryers, workshops and livestock buildings. See our agricultural electrician page for more.
Shops, offices and retail units: lighting upgrades, extra circuits and sockets, emergency lighting, EICRs, and air conditioning for staff and customers.
How a commercial job runs
1. Site survey. We come out, look at the supply, boards, plant and how the building is used, and ask what's coming next (solar, EV, more cold rooms).
2. Quote and paperwork. You get a clear written quote. Commercial and farm clients often need insurance details, RAMS and proof of competence before work starts. Tell us at quote stage and we'll send the pack with the proposal.
3. Planned work. We agree an isolation window that suits production. Out-of-hours work is available by arrangement.
4. Testing and certification. Work is tested and certified, and we walk you through what was done.
5. Aftercare. We stay available for maintenance, repairs and re-testing instead of disappearing after handover.

Case study: Polyco, Bourne
Seven 4.8 kW electric radiant heaters
For Polyco in Bourne we supplied and installed seven 4.8 kW ceiling-mounted electric radiant heaters (about 33.6 kW in total). Each heater has its own local rotary isolator and is mounted on unistrut supports. The heater photos below are from this job.
New incoming supply for commercial solar PV
For a commercial client in Lincolnshire we installed a new incoming electrical supply and a new distribution board for their solar PV system. The switchgear, main switch panel and distribution board photos below are from that job.

Frequently asked questions
- Do you work out of hours on commercial sites?
- Yes, by arrangement. Packhouses and cold stores often need isolations outside production. Call 07714 736921 and we'll agree a window.
- Can you handle three-phase supplies on farms and workshops?
- Yes. We survey the existing supply and board, then install or upgrade three-phase distribution, motor circuits and controls. Larger DNO supply upgrades are quoted after the survey.
- How often does my business need an EICR?
- It depends on the type of premises and how it's used. Damp, dusty or heavily used buildings like packhouses and agricultural sheds usually need inspecting more often than a dry office. We'll tell you what applies to your site and record the recommended next inspection date on the report.
- Can you send RAMS and insurance documents before starting?
- Yes. Let us know at quote stage and we'll include them with the proposal.
- Do you do emergency lighting testing?
- Yes. We test, report and replace emergency lighting fittings so your records are up to date.
- Can you get our cold store running again if it's an electrical fault?
- We fault-find and repair the electrical side of cold-store control panels, sensors and motor circuits. Because we also service the refrigeration side, one call covers both.
