Who we work for

South Holland runs on cold chain. We look after cold stores, walk-in freezers and temperature-controlled warehouses for packhouses, growers and produce businesses, food processors, farm stores and smaller commercial users such as shops with cold rooms. If you've got stock that has to stay at temperature, we understand what downtime means for you.

What we cover and the kit

Planned maintenance: routine inspections, electrical checks and component servicing to catch problems before they become a breakdown.

Chiller and refrigeration repair: rooftop condensers, external chiller units such as the Galletti unit in our photos, internal evaporators and the controls that tie it together.

Control panels and electrical work: cold stores depend on PLCs, temperature monitoring and automated control panels. We fault-find, repair and rewire control panels and sort out faults anywhere in the refrigeration control chain.

Because we're also commercial electricians, we can look at the supply, distribution boards and wiring feeding the plant, which is often where intermittent faults hide.

How we work

1. Tell us what's happening: alarms, temperatures, what's stopped and when. Photos of the plant and controller help.

2. Diagnosis on site, working through the refrigeration side and the electrical and control side together.

3. Repair, or a clear quote if parts need ordering, with honest advice on whether it's a repair or a replacement job.

4. Testing and getting the store back down to temperature, with a record of what we found and did.

For planned maintenance we agree visit frequency and scope with you and work around your operation, including busy seasons.

If your cold store breaks down

We offer out-of-hours and emergency callouts, including evenings and weekends, because cold stores don't break down to a timetable. Ring us straight away on 07714 736921 and we'll get to you as quickly as we can. While you wait, a few things help: keep doors shut as much as possible to hold temperature, note any alarm codes or messages on the controller, and write down the temperatures and when the problem started. If a breaker or isolator has tripped, don't keep resetting it. Repeated tripping is a sign of a fault, and forcing it can make things worse or be dangerous. Let us find the cause.

If stock is at risk, it's worth knowing in advance where it could go short term. That's one more reason planned maintenance pays for itself: most breakdowns we see give warning signs first, such as icing evaporators, noisy fans, short-cycling compressors or temperatures drifting overnight.

Electrical safety in cold stores

Cold, damp, ice and condensation are hard on electrical kit. Cable glands, door heaters, lighting and isolators in and around stores take a beating, and faults there can trip the whole plant. As well as refrigeration work, we can carry out periodic inspection and testing of the building's electrical installation and put right anything we find, so your insurer and your own health and safety paperwork are covered.

Costs and savings

Every cold store is different, so we price after we've seen the plant or understood the fault, and we'll give you a written quote for planned maintenance.

The real saving is in avoiding lost stock and downtime. Well-maintained plant also tends to run more efficiently. Cold stores run day and night, so they're also among the best candidates for commercial solar PV: the store's big, steady electrical load can use a lot of what the roof generates.
