Consumer unit replacement in Spalding

If your fuse board is dated, has blown fuses, or failed an EICR, a consumer unit upgrade is often the safest next step. PPM Electrical Ltd is NAPIT Part P registered and installs modern boards with RCBOs and surge protection in homes across Spalding and South Holland.

When to replace a consumer unit

Common reasons: an unsatisfactory EICR, no RCD protection on socket circuits, a board that is too small for solar or an EV charger, burning smells, or rewire-era fuse boxes. Landlords in particular cannot leave C1/C2 board issues outstanding.

A new board does not automatically mean a full rewire. We inspect the existing circuits first. If the wiring is sound, we replace the board, test everything, and certify the work.

What we fit

Modern metal consumer units with RCBOs on outgoing circuits (so one fault does not kill the whole house) and SPD surge protection where it is required or sensible. We regularly work with Hager and similar quality kit — including solar generation boards on PV jobs.

The install is notifiable under Part P. As a NAPIT registered installer we handle the Building Control notification and give you the certificates you need for sale, remortgage or the letting agent.

What to expect on the day

The power will be off while we change the board — typically most of a working day for a standard house, longer if circuits need tracing or the tails and meter tails are a mess. We isolate safely, label circuits, test, and leave the cupboard tidy. You will know in advance if we think there is extra work (bonding, damaged cables) before we start.

Solar, batteries and EV chargers

Many Spalding homes now add solar, a battery or a driveway charger. Those extra circuits often need space in the board and the right protection. We design the consumer unit as part of the renewable install so you are not paying twice.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be without power all day?
The main supply is off during the changeover. We plan the day so you know when kettles and boilers will be back. Essential medical equipment needs a plan before we book.
Is this covered by Part P?
Yes. Consumer unit replacement is notifiable. We notify through NAPIT and issue the certificates.
