Who battery storage is for

Homes: if you're out at work in the day and the house uses most of its power in the morning and evening, a battery lets you keep the solar you generate and use it later, instead of exporting it and buying it back.

Farms: grain stores, workshops, poultry and livestock units often have loads that don't line up neatly with the sun. Storage helps spread solar generation across more of the day.

Commercial: packhouses, warehouses, workshops and offices with high daytime use or big solar arrays can use storage to smooth demand and, depending on tariff, shift some use away from the most expensive periods. What's involved and the kit we fit

A battery system is more than a box on the wall. It's the battery modules, a compatible hybrid or battery inverter, the right protection and isolation, metering, and monitoring so you can see what it's doing. On commercial jobs it can mean larger cabinet-style modular systems built for daily cycling.

The kit in the photos on this page is our own work: Duracell battery modules with a Sungrow inverter, Growatt battery inverters, Sungrow storage systems and a commercial modular cabinet. We specify the brand and size at design stage to suit your property and your existing kit, rather than pushing one product at everyone.

Backup during a power cut is possible with some systems but not all. It depends on the inverter and how the system is wired, so tell us at survey if it matters to you and we'll explain what your options really give you.

Adding a battery to existing solar panels

If you've already got solar, a battery can usually be added, but it needs a hybrid inverter to manage the panels and the battery together. Most older systems have a standard solar-only inverter, so we swap the original inverter for a hybrid one and connect the battery to it. That keeps your existing panels working and lets the system store what you'd otherwise export. We check your panels, wiring and consumer unit at survey and quote for the inverter swap and battery together.

How a battery job runs

1. Chat and survey. We look at your bills or meter data, your consumer unit, where the battery and inverter can safely go, and any solar you already have.

2. Design. We size the battery around how you actually use power, not the biggest one that fits the budget, and check it works with your inverter and supply.

3. Quote. A written quote with the kit, the work and the paperwork spelled out.

4. Installation and testing. Neat cable runs, correct protection, full electrical testing and commissioning, with the monitoring app set up.

5. Handover. We show you how it works, give you the certificates and paperwork, and you've got a local number to ring afterwards.

Costs and savings

We don't put prices on this page because every job is different. Cost depends mainly on battery capacity, the inverter, whether solar is going in at the same time, and how easy the install position is.

Savings depend on how much solar you'd otherwise export, when you use your electricity, and what tariff you're on. Some people also charge from the grid on a cheaper overnight rate, where their tariff allows. We'll talk you through the numbers for your property honestly, including when a battery doesn't make sense yet. Tariffs and any support schemes change, so we'll tell you what's current when we quote.

Accreditations

MCS accredited for solar PV and battery storage, so the system is designed and installed to the scheme rules with the paperwork you'd expect.

NAPIT Part P registered (Competent Person Scheme) for electrical installation work in homes, so notifiable work is self-certified and Building Control is notified through NAPIT.

NAPIT certified for periodic inspection and testing of homes and other premises, including commercial and farm buildings. Certificate NAP/79608/26/2.

Can you add a battery to the solar panels I already have?

Yes. Adding a battery needs a hybrid inverter. If your system has a standard solar-only inverter, we swap it for a hybrid one so the battery can be connected, and quote for both together.

Which battery brands do you install?

Our installs include Duracell, Sungrow and Growatt systems, as shown in the photos on this page. We choose the brand and size at design stage to suit your property.

Will a battery keep my power on in a power cut?

Only some systems provide backup, and it depends on the inverter and wiring. If backup matters to you, say so at survey and we'll explain exactly what your system will and won't do.

Do you install commercial and farm batteries?

Yes. We install storage for homes, farms and commercial buildings, including larger modular cabinet systems for businesses.

How big a battery do I need?
