EV Charger Installation in Spalding & Lincolnshire

A proper wall-mounted charger is safer, quicker and tidier than running a lead out of the kitchen window. PPM Electrical Ltd installs EV chargers on driveways, farmyards and business car parks across Spalding, South Holland and Lincolnshire, and we can set them up to work with solar panels if you've got them or are thinking about them.

Serving Spalding, Holbeach, Boston, Bourne, Long Sutton, Crowland, Pinchbeck, Market Deeping, Peterborough, and surrounding Lincolnshire towns.

Who we fit chargers for

Homes: a single charger on the driveway or garage wall, wired on its own protected circuit, so the car is full every morning.

Farms and rural properties: longer cable runs, outbuildings and three-phase supplies are everyday work for us, so a charger in a farmyard or by a workshop isn't a problem.

Businesses: single chargers or multi-bay charging for staff, visitors and fleet vans. Larger workplace jobs often go hand in hand with wider electrical work, which is covered on our commercial electrician page.

What's involved and the kit

Every install starts with your supply. We check the incoming supply, the consumer unit, the earthing arrangement and how much spare capacity there is. A charger is a big continuous load, so getting this right matters more than the badge on the front.

Then it's the charger itself, a dedicated circuit with the right protection, a neat cable route from the board to the charge point, and setting up the app or controls. If you have solar, a smart charger can be set to soak up surplus generation rather than exporting it. If your board is old or full, we may recommend a consumer unit upgrade first, and we'll explain why.

We fit any make of charger. We're not tied to a brand, so we'll recommend the right one for your car, your supply and whether you want solar matching, or fit the one you've already chosen if it suits the job.

Multi-bay workplace charging with load management

For businesses we install multi-bay charging with load management. Instead of every charger pulling full power at once and overloading the supply, load management shares the available capacity between the cars plugged in, so you can fit more charge points without an expensive supply upgrade. We look at your incoming supply and existing loads, plan cable routes and positions around your site, and leave room to add more bays later as your fleet or staff EV numbers grow.

Where should the charger go?

Usually as close as practical to where you park, on a solid wall, with a sensible route back to the consumer unit. Shorter cable runs keep the cost down, but we won't squeeze a charger somewhere awkward just to save a metre of cable. Think about where the charge port is on your car, whether you might have two EVs one day, and whether the lead will cross a path. On farms and business sites we also think about vehicle movements, tractors and forklifts, and protecting the unit from knocks. We'll suggest the best spot at survey.

How the job runs

1. Quick chat about your car, where you park and where the board is. Photos help.

2. Survey of the supply, earthing and cable route, plus any load management needed.

3. Written quote with the charger, the work and any extras such as a board upgrade spelled out.

4. Installation and testing on the day agreed, usually without fuss, followed by full electrical testing.

5. Handover: we set up the app, show you how it works and give you the certificates. Home installations are notified to Building Control through NAPIT.

Costs and savings

We don't publish fixed prices because cable length, the supply, the charger you choose and any board work all change the cost. You'll get a clear written quote after the survey.

Charging at home is usually far cheaper than public rapid charging, especially on an EV or off-peak tariff, and cheaper still if a smart charger can use your own solar. How much you save depends on your mileage and tariff. Government grants for chargers have changed several times and depend on who you are and the property, so we'll tell you what currently applies when we quote rather than promising anything here.

Accreditations

NAPIT Part P registered (Competent Person Scheme) for electrical installation work in homes, so notifiable work is self-certified and Building Control is notified through NAPIT. That covers EV charger installations at your home.

NAPIT certified for periodic inspection and testing of homes and other premises, including commercial and farm buildings. Certificate NAP/79608/26/2.

MCS accredited for solar PV and battery storage, which helps when we're pairing a charger with solar. Full details are on our accreditations page.

Frequently asked questions

Which charger brands do you fit?
Any make. We're brand-agnostic, so we'll recommend the right charger for your car, supply and solar, or fit the one you've chosen if it suits.
Will my fuse board need upgrading?
Sometimes. If the board is old, full or lacks the right protection, we'll recommend an upgrade and explain why. Plenty of installs don't need one.
Can the charger use my solar panels?
Yes, with a solar-compatible smart charger it can be set to use surplus solar generation. We'll set that up as part of the install.
Can you install several chargers for a business?
Yes. We install multi-bay workplace and fleet charging with load management, which shares the available supply between the chargers so you don't overload your connection. Farms too.
Are there grants for EV chargers?
Grant schemes have changed several times and depend on your circumstances. We'll tell you what currently applies when we quote.
Is the installation certified?
Yes. You get electrical installation certificates, and home installs are notified to Building Control through NAPIT under our Part P registration.
